Magenta

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 40 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 51 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, wonky trunk covered in silky, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the light wood is pale yellow.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with sparse amounts of small, needle-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are grey and magenta.

In early spring, it produces several small, faded orange blossoms with oblong petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like new books.

In early summer it produces tiny, long, straight fruit. The smooth orange skin is thick and bitter and salty, and the very soft turquoise flesh is sweet and sticky. The slate seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
