Mahogany

Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)

This big shrub grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for around 23 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous sturdy, slanted stems covered in hard, smooth, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are short stubs that and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, fan-like, leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are lime and grey, light and waxy.

In early spring it produces thousands of tiny, beige blossoms with perforated petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have an intensely strong scent that smells like something putrid.

In early winter finger-like fruits ripen. The crispy beige skin is peel-able and edible when boiled; it is very sweet, and the soft brown flesh is bland and powdery. The cream seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
Ivy often grows along the trunk.
