Indigo Fruit Tree

This large fruit tree grows up to 29 feet (8.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 46 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, wonky trunk covered in smooth, silver bark, and inside, the flexible wood is silver.

The sparse amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of small, 8 pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are violet on the sides and indigo at the center.

In early spring, it produces a handful of tiny, blood red blossoms with 3 flame-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like fresh linen.

In mid-autumn it produces small, 2 pointed fruit. The fuzzy lime skin is thick and inedible, and the crunchy violet flesh is sweet and very dry. The hazel seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
