Aquamarine Spike Succulent

Succulent type: Leaf succulent (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized leaf succulent grows up to 42 feet (12.8 meters) tall. The thick stem is burgundy, and is covered in large amounts of flexible aquamarine spines. The lumpy leaves are green with blood red tips. Large amounts of them grow on flat, gray-green and hazel branches that are very short and thick. The leaves are flexible, and take some effort to detach.

It is quick growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with lilac petals and a yellow center grow at the top, reappearing once every 4 years. The flower head is shaped like a heart with 23 raised, round-tipped petals. It has a weak scent that smells like cigarette smoke.

The leaf succulent's skin is thick, the cream flesh is slimy, and the grey sap is thin and causes diarrhea if consumed.
