Bluebell

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The narrow stem is brown and light brown, and is covered in hundreds of rigid gentle blue spines. The twisting, brilliant yellow trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter at the bottom. Its orange branches are very short and thick and start growing a quarter of the way up the stem.

The handfuls of smooth-edged, pleated leaves are generally copper. They are tough, and are very difficult to pull away.

It is fast growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with alternating petals of orange and grey, with a black central disk grows at the top, reappearing once every 9 years. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 20 curved petals. It has a weak scent that smells like new carpet.

The caudiciform's skin is delicate, the red flesh is smooth, and the white sap is thin.
