This massive bine is a slow growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 1,876 feet (571.8 meters) and growing as high as 898 feet (273.7 meters).

It takes 41 years for the gray stems to mature, by which point they can have a diameter of 4.1 feet (1.2 meters) and are rough and gnarled.

The thin, smooth leaves reach up to 2.7 feet (81 cm) in length. They are emerald with red tips, and have rounded edges.

During late spring, the bine produces a handful of tiny bronze flowers.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
