Copperfruit Tree

This huge fruit tree grows up to 75 feet (22.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 64 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, straight trunk covered in thin, waxy, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is pale brown-grey.

The large clumps of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with handfuls of miniature, slender, pointed leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are solid silver or lime, with orange lines.

In early spring, it produces balls of medium-sized, vivid green blossoms with 3 circular shaped petals. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like rotten egg.

In early summer it produces large, oblong fruit. The fuzzy intense orange skin is thick and sweet and spicy, and the crunchy copper flesh is sweet and powdery. The green seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
