Magenta

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in its stem)

This giant flower grows up to 11.2 feet (3.4 meters) tall. Its olive or light brown stem is thick and splits into 8 branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the giant, silver leaves are dark grey on the underside and are needle-like with wavy edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Each stem splits 6 to 12 times; a single medium-sized flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 74 cm (29.1 inches) wide, with petals that are magenta in the center, bronze in the middle and silver at the edges. The flower head is shaped like a dish made up of several raised, round-tipped petals. They are very delicate.

It has an overpowering scent that smells like burning wood, and it has a modest amount of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by some specific types of insect.

It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
