Magenta Bellbark
Shrub type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)This modest-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 17 years. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.
It has several stocky, straight stems covered in delicate, ridged, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is black.
The branches are short stubs with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with small amounts of tiny, wide, leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are lilac at the bottom and violet with light brown patches at the top, strong and crispy.
In early summer it produces handfuls of giant, magenta flowers with slender, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like cherry.
