Silverfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 48 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a stocky, slanted trunk covered in silky, yellow bark, and inside, the soft wood is white with black speckles.

The excessive amount of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of huge, thin leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are silver and hazel.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of large, white blossoms with teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like cigarette smoke.

In late autumn it produces tiny, stiff, pointed fruit. The rough hazel skin is stretchy and inedible, and the soft azure flesh is salty and sticky. The silver seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
