Savory Azurefruit

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 42 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, brown-green bark, and inside, the very dense wood is light brown.

The small bunches of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with small bunches of small, stiff, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either cream, or pink with purple patches.

In early spring, it produces lots of giant, cream blossoms with kidney-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like marzipan.

In mid-autumn it produces , finger-like fruit. The waxy azure skin is tough and spicy and sour, and the slightly crunchy pink flesh is extremely savoury and oily. The brilliant yellow seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
