Heathland Giant Moss

This gray-green moss is commonly found growing in giant clumps In heathlands.
It is big, growing up to 9 inches (23 cm) tall. It forms in large clumps and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is very light.
When mature, emerald spiral capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release dozens of spores; it does not cause any allergic reactions.
