It is short, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches and they are slow to spread and grow, and is very rigid; it dislikes being stepped on.
When mature, emerald triangular capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late autumn to release thousands of spores.
It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
