Redstem
Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its stem)This short flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its vivid red stem is very thick, and the giant, pink-red leaves are dark copper and gray-green on the underside and are finger-like with smooth edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.
Each stem splits 6 to 11 times; a single giant flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 5 cm (2.0 inches) wide, with washed-out orange petals and a yellow center. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of 24 curved petals. They fall easily.
It has an intensely strong scent that smells like cheese, and it has excessive amounts of pollen, but it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also particularly attractive to insects.
It is suitable for use as a construction material
Several parts of the flower have medicinal properties.
