Lilac Spiralvine

Flower type: Biennial (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This short flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its lime green stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 3 and are very thick and straight, and split into dozens of branching stems a quarter of the way up, and the huge, peach leaves are stiff, pointed with smooth edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Each stem splits 5 to 10 times; a single medium-sized flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 1 cm (0.4 inches) wide, with petals that are generally lilac; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is shaped like a tube made up of 11 raised, round-tipped petals. They are sturdy.

It has a faint scent that smells like new carpet, and it has a fair amount of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but only one species in particular.

The sap is edible and overwhelmingly sour.
