Orange Spine Cactus

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This short cactus grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall. It splits near the top to form 2 tapering stems. Each stem is orange, and is covered in thousands of rigid green spines.

It is steady-growing, taking 4 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, several flowers with petals that are indigo on the edges and caramel at the center grow at the top, reappearing after 8 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of dozens of petals in raised layers. It has a delicate scent that smells like paint.

The cactus's skin is delicate, the magenta flesh is slimy, and the pink sap is thin.

It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
The sap is edible and extremely savoury.
It is difficult to kill and will quickly regrow if cut.
