Crimson Winged Maple

This massive shrub grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 159 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has numerous slender, straight stems covered in very thick, ridged, yellow-brown bark, and the wood inside is white with black speckles.

The branches trail down across the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with small amounts of miniature, 2 pointed, leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are found in washed-out purple, crimson and crimson varieties, durable and waxy.

It produces lots of medium-sized, light orange flowers with needle-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like a man. In mid-summer it forms largered, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.
