Bloodwood Tree

This small tree grows up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 54 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, wavy trunk covered in thick, rough, yellow bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches trail down to the ground and are covered with large amounts of crispy, huge, wide leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid lime or black, with grey patches.

In early spring, it produces many bunches of giant, blood red blossoms with spear shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like varnish.

In late summer it forms tiny, muted green, tough-shelled seeds.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
