Spiny Moonflower

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall. The wispy stem is lime green, and is covered in large amounts of rigid vivid orange spines. The thick, gnarled, light grey trunk can grow to as much as 3 feet (91.4 cm) in diameter. Its violet branches trail down towards the ground.

The irregular-edged, fan-like leaves are gold at the bottom and red with peach patches at the top. They are light, and are very difficult to pull away.

It is slow growing, taking 10 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with alternating petals of amber and purple, with a lime central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 5 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 18 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight bowl. It has a faint scent that smells like an ocean breeze.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the sky blue flesh is slimy, and the azure sap is thin and causes diarrhea if consumed.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
Several parts of the tree have medicinal properties.
It is very resistant to fire damage.
