Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, wonky trunk covered in cracked, dark brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is white.

The excessive amount of branches are short and thin and are covered with large amounts of small, spear shaped leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are slate on the edges and beige at the center.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of tiny, green blossoms with slender, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like rotting meat.

In early winter it produces large, asymmetrical fruit. The leathery blood red skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft blood red flesh is sweet and spicy and juicy. The beige seeds are small and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It commonly grows in large patches.
It is suitable for making paper
