Indigoberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 41 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, wavy trunk covered in very thick, cracked, white with black speckled bark, and inside, the very dense wood is yellow.

The small handful of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with small bunches of miniature, very thick leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are sky blue at the bottom and green with washed-out red edges at the top.

In early spring, it produces bunches of small, lime blossoms with flame-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a powerful scent that smells like mango.

In late summer it produces small, long, curved fruit. The smooth violet skin is delicate and inedible, and the slightly crunchy indigo flesh is bland and very dry. The dark grey seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
