Redwood

This average-sized tree grows up to 44 meters (144.4 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 694 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a slender, slanted trunk covered in very thick, wrinkled, light gray bark, and inside, the light wood is white.

The small bunches of branches are very long and slender and are covered with large amounts of clammy, miniature, thin leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are either brilliant red or purple, with olive patches.

In late summer it forms small, violet aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with clear space between them.
