Aquamarineberry

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 58 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, curved trunk covered in delicate, smooth, dark brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pale brown.

The numerous branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of giant, fan-like leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are grey with grey tips.

In early spring, it produces lots of large, aquamarine blossoms with broad, flat petals. They detach easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like meat.

In early autumn it produces small, triangular fruit. The leathery brilliant red skin is thick and inedible, and the slightly crunchy red flesh is spicy and salty and juicy. The bronze seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with grassy ground between them.
