Burgundy Trumpet Flower

Flower type: Perennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This colossal flower grows up to 12.0 feet (3.7 meters) tall. Its burgundy stem is thick and straight with a curved tip, and the huge, green leaves are dark moss green on the underside and are very thin with jagged edges. The leaves grow in pairs along the length of the stem.

4 to 8 giant flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 58 cm (22.8 inches) wide, with each petal a slightly different shade of beige. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of several raised, narrow petals. They detach easily.

It has a weak scent that smells like petrol, and it has an average amount of pollen. It is a self-pollinator, but is also visited by some specific types of insect.
