Blackfruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)This large fruit tree grows up to 36 feet (11.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 34 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in thin, rough, gray bark, and inside, the flexible wood is copper-coloured.
The excessive amount of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with small amounts of huge, stiff, pointed leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are black on the sides and peach at the center.
In early spring, it produces thousands of medium-sized, bronze blossoms with triangular shaped petals. They detach easily and have an intense scent that smells like freshly baked bread.
In mid-autumn it produces , circular fruit. The soft grey skin is thin and inedible, and the very soft black flesh is salty and very juicy. The caramel seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.
The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
