Orange Trumpetvine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for around 13 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous narrow, straight stems covered in thin, silky, dark brown bark, and the wood inside is silver.

The branches are long and slender that and are covered with small amounts of giant, long, tapering, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are either orange, or olive with brown patches, strong and waxy.

In mid-spring it produces several giant, vivid orange blossoms with asymmetrical petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like warm cookies.

In mid-autumn small needle-like fruits ripen. The rough gold skin is thin and sweet and bitter, and the very soft olive flesh is bitter and salty and oily. The gold seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.
