Turquoise

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 60 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a branched, angular trunk covered in fine, ridged, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very hard wood is black.

The small bunches of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with thick bunches of huge, finger-like leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are either light brown or hazel, with slate dots.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of small, black blossoms with needle-like petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a faint scent that smells like coconut.

In late summer it produces small, long, tapering fruit. The smooth turquoise skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft lilac flesh is spicy and salty and syrupy. The caramel seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
