Copperfruit

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, straight trunk covered in hard, knobbly, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the hard wood is mahogany-coloured.

The small bunches of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small bunches of tiny, thin leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of silver that gradient shifts to amber at the top.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of small, blood red blossoms with long, narrow petals. They fall easily and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like misty mornings.

In late summer it produces small, long, tapering fruit. The hairy lilac skin is delicate and inedible, and the soft gold flesh is sweet and bitter and syrupy. The olive seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with clear space between them.
