Silverknob Tree

Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short tree grows up to 4 meters (13.1 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 455 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, angular trunk covered in cracked, silver bark, and inside, the very light wood is pale brown.

The branches are short stubs and are covered with large amounts of smooth, huge, finger-like leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are moss green with light brown tips.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of tiny, hazel blossoms with long, tapering petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like rainy days.

In late summer it forms giant, hazel, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
