Thorned Silvervine
Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This big caudiciform grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall. The finger-like stem is gray, and is covered in thick bunches of rigid green spines. The crooked, cream trunk can grow to as much as 8 feet (2.4 meters) in diameter at the bottom. Its emerald branches trail down towards the ground and start growing at the base the stem.
The large amounts of jagged-edged, very thick leaves are solid silver or bronze, with yellow splotches. They are flexible, but do not detach easily.
It is slow growing, taking 46 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with solid muted purple petals and a violet central disk, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of handfuls of petals in raised layers. It has a delicate scent that smells like cotton.
The caudiciform's skin is nearly impenetrable, the blue flesh is soft, and the yellow sap is thin.
