Waterstem Shrubby
Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 134 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.
It has numerous narrow, straight stems covered in thin, cracked, pine-coloured bark, and the wood inside is white.
The branches trail down towards the ground that and are covered with small bunches of giant, finger-like, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid green with azure lines, frail and waxy.
It produces lots of large, slate flowers with pleated petals. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like onion. In early autumn it forms giantblack, tough-shelled seeds.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It is very rare outside of a particular area.
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
