Bloodfire Tree

This big fruit tree grows up to 43 feet (13.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 41 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, curved trunk covered in thick, silky, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the hard wood is burgundy-brown.

The tangled mess of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with handfuls of small, very thick leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid silver or bronze, with yellow splotches.

In early spring, it produces many tiny, blood red blossoms with crescent-shaped petals. They are very delicate and have a powerful scent that smells like lavender.

In mid-summer it produces small, asymmetrical fruit. The sticky gold skin is stretchy and edible when roasted; it is bitter, and the soft dull orange flesh is spicy and dry. The blood red seed is tiny and sits at the end of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with grassy ground between them.
