Waterstem Shrub
Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)This modest-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 123 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has many sturdy, wonky stems covered in smooth, burgundy and brown bark, and the wood inside is black with white speckles.
The branches trail down across the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of miniature, oval-shaped, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are indigo and azure, frail and rough.
In early spring it produces thousands of tiny, azure flowers with crescent-shaped petals. They are very delicate and have an intensely strong scent that smells like faeces.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
It only grows on the most fertile lands.
