Watermelon Willow

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This large fruit tree grows up to 24 feet (7.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 29 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a branched, slanted trunk covered in paper-thin, smooth, brown and grey bark, and inside, the soft wood is light brown.

The small handful of branches are very long, thin and wispy and are covered with copious amounts of large, very thin leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are indigo on the edges and bronze at the center.

In early spring, it produces lots of tiny, pink blossoms with long, narrow petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have a delicate scent that smells like warm cookies.

In late autumn it produces , oval fruit. The soft lime skin is thin and inedible, and the crunchy dull orange flesh is spicy and very juicy. The grey seed is very large and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It coexists peacefully with other plants.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
