Indigo

This colossal fruit tree grows up to 53 feet (16.2 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in fine, silky, gray bark, and inside, the very dense wood is pale brown-grey.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with copious amounts of giant, long, tapering leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are either cyan or dark brown, with intense orange zig-zags.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of medium-sized, caramel blossoms with circular petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are sturdy and have a soft scent that smells like mint.

In early winter it produces , long, narrow fruit. The fuzzy indigo skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is overwhelmingly savoury, and the very soft caramel flesh is slightly sweet and juicy. The silver seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
