Silverleaf Berry Tree
Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its leaves)This small fruit tree grows up to 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 10 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 29 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.
It has a flexible, wonky trunk covered in hard, wrinkled, silver and white bark, and inside, the very dense wood is gray.
The branches trail down across the ground and are covered with thick bunches of large, long, tapering leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are pale blue on the sides and violet at the center.
In early spring, it produces large amounts of medium-sized, cream blossoms with perforated petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a mildly strong scent that smells like new carpet.
In late autumn it produces tiny, stiff, pointed fruit. The smooth black skin is peel-able and inedible, and the very soft pale blue flesh is sweet and spicy and powdery. The grey seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.
The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.
Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
