Mahogany-colored Ribbonwood

Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This modest-sized tree grows up to 26 meters (85.3 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 247 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in hard, smooth, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the soft wood is yellow.

The small bunches of branches are very long and thin and are covered with handfuls of clammy, miniature, slender, pointed leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are bronze and pink.

In early spring, it produces many medium-sized, grey blossoms with slender, pointed petals. They are hardy and have a delicate scent that smells like rotten eggs.

In late summer it forms tiny, violet berries.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It is very rare outside of a particular area.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
