Bluefruit Tree

This small fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 45 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in thin, waxy, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the soft wood is burgundy.

The sparse amount of branches are short stubs and are covered with very large amounts of large, broad, flat leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are faded blue and sky blue.

In early spring, it produces bunches of giant, lilac blossoms with broad, flat petals with a tube-like floral cup. They are very delicate and have an intensely strong scent that smells like something putrid.

In early winter it produces , finger-like fruit. The smooth caramel skin is stretchy and spicy and savoury, and the soft slate flesh is overwhelmingly spicy and powdery. The orange seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.
