Lilac Spine Caudex

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The narrow stem is orange-yellow, and is covered in thick bunches of flexible lilac spines. The very thick, yellow trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter. Its caramel and red branches are short, rigid and upright.

The jagged-edged, wide leaves are a shade of gray-green that gradient shifts to dark grey at the top. They are fairly frail, and take little effort to detach.

It is very slow growing, taking 5 years to reach maturity. Once mature, several flowers with copper petals and a bold red central disk grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of several petals in raised layers. It has a mildly strong scent that smells like something putrid.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the orange flesh is rough, and the slate sap is thin.

It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
