Slatepine

Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This modest-sized tree grows up to 52 meters (170.6 feet) tall and lives for over 1,000 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 1473 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a slender, slanted trunk covered in rough, dark gray bark, and inside, the light wood is light brown.

The branches are very short and thick, with thousands of twigs covered with large amounts of large, pink-red needles. The needles themselves are flimsy.

In late summer it produces medium-sized, slate aril (seeds with fleshy covers).

The roots are long and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It is suitable for use as a construction material
