Clinging Citron

This big fruit tree grows up to 42 feet (12.8 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 22 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a very thick, crooked trunk covered in fine, silky, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the very dense wood is burgundy.

The abundance of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of small, pleated leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid grey with dark brown lines.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of small, dark brown blossoms with stiff, pointed petals. They are very delicate and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like mint.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, stiff, pointed fruit. The fuzzy beige skin is thick and edible when boiled; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy lime flesh is sour and savoury and dry. The slate seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
