Cyanvine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This average-sized shrub grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall and lives for around 43 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous flexible, straight stems covered in hard, waxy, brown-green bark, and the wood inside is gray.

The branches trail down towards the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with sparse amounts of large, needle-like, leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are ashy orange at the bottom and cyan with grey patches at the top, flimsy and waxy.

In mid-summer it produces handfuls of giant, light brown blossoms with many layers of petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like petrol.

In midwinter small spherical fruits ripen. The smooth caramel skin is thin and inedible, and the slightly crunchy green flesh is salty and powdery. The orange seeds are small and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
