Silverbark Maple

Tree type: Deciduous (Grows and flowers repeatedly for more than two years)

This short tree grows up to 6 meters (19.7 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 507 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in thick, silky, dark green bark, and inside, the soft wood is black with white speckles.

The abundance of branches are short stubs and are covered with small bunches of leathery, small, broad, flat leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are solid slate with grey lines.

In late summer it forms tiny, crimson, winged seeds that spin and fall nearby.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with patches of undergrowth between them.

It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
It is very rare outside of a particular area.
It can flourish even in standing water.
