Bronzeberry

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 195 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of very thick, twisting stems covered in delicate, rough, yellow-brown bark, and the wood inside is pale brown-grey.

The branches are very long and thin with thousands of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of huge, circular, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are grey and brown, rigid and fuzzy.

In late summer it produces a handful of medium-sized, bronze blossoms with teardrop-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like sweat.

In early autumn S-shaped fruits ripen. The leathery violet skin is thick and inedible, and the crunchy grey flesh is salty and oily. The grey seeds are tiny and are scattered throughout the fruit.
