Crimson Cactus

Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)

This small cactus grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. It splits near the top to form 5 needle-like stems. Each stem is burgundy, and is covered in large amounts of flexible crimson spines.

It is very slow growing, taking 33 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with each petal a slightly different shade of washed-out yellow grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 30 curved petals. It has no scent.

The cactus's skin is delicate, the violet flesh is waxy, and the white sap is thin and causes severe cramps if consumed.
