Crimson Fruit Tree
Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 44 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.
It has a wide, straight trunk covered in hard, ridged, brown and grey bark, and inside, the very dense wood is burgundy-brown.
The branches are very short and thin and are covered with sparse amounts of tiny, stiff, pointed leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of black or caramel that gradient shifts to faded blue at the top.
In early spring, it produces handfuls of tiny, black blossoms with broad, flat petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a weak scent that smells like pine needles.
In early winter it produces large, triangular fruit. The fuzzy crimson skin is thin and sweet and spicy, and the slightly crunchy red flesh is spicy and very dry. The crimson seed is large and is in the centre of the fruit.
The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
It is suitable for making strong rope
It can survive a very long time without water.
