Indigo

This large fruit tree grows up to 26 feet (7.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 27 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, straight trunk covered in knobbly, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the very light wood is burgundy.

The branches are long and slender and are covered with very large amounts of small, slender, pointed leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are red at the bottom and sky blue with orange splotches at the top.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of medium-sized, indigo blossoms with pleated petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like pineapple.

In early winter it produces tiny, oval fruit. The fuzzy light grey skin is tough and inedible, and the very soft light brown flesh is savoury and powdery. The light brown seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
