Crimson Trumpet
Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its leaves)This short flower grows up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. Its copper stem is very thick, and the miniature, green leaves are spiral with serrated edges. 4 leaves grow at the base of the stem.
Each stem splits 3 to 8 times; a single tiny flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 4 cm (1.6 inches) wide, with solid gold petals and a crimson central disk. The flower head is shaped like a trumpet made up of 13 tightly layered, narrow petals. They fall easily.
It has a delicate scent that smells like old shoes, and it has lots of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by a variety of insects.
It releases hallucinogenic smoke when burned.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
