Indigo
Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 42 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has numerous wide, straight stems covered in paper-thin, waxy, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is light brown.
The branches are short stubs with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of giant, perforated, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are beige on the sides and amber at the center, rigid and soft.
In early summer it produces lots of small, indigo blossoms with shield-shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like pineapple.
In mid-autumn needle-like fruits ripen. The clammy green skin is tough and sweet, and the crunchy beige flesh is spicy and sticky. The pale yellow seed is large and sits at the end of the fruit.
