Climbing plant type: Vine (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)This massive vine is a very slow growing plant, with the largest known specimen reaching a length of 1,945 feet (592.8 meters) and growing as high as 266 feet (81.1 meters).
It takes 18 years for the light yellow or green stems to mature, by which point they each have a diameter of 3.6 feet (1.1 meters) and are smooth and fuzzy.
The pleated, crispy leaves reach up to 2.3 feet (69 cm) in length. They are sky blue on the sides and vivid purple at the center, and have serrated edges.
During late spring, the vine produces handfuls of large indigo flowers.
It grows well in the sun and full shade.
